The picnickers who were fortunate enough to be chosen were awarded complimentary hampers that contained a variety of delicacies from some of Paris’ most renowned chefs, such as inventive sandwiches and puff pastries, through a random drawing.
The food was prepared in eight temporary kitchens that were erected along the avenue. Restaurants along the avenue, including the renowned Fouquet’s and McDonald’s, furnished the food.
The event was held precisely two months prior to the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Paris. The seating area was a 216-meter (236-yard) long tablecloth that extended from the Arc de Triomphe to the intersection of Avenue George V.
According to the coordinators, the tablecloth was produced in France from 100% recycled fibers and had a total surface area of 4,212 square meters (45,338 square feet).
The picnickers were also visited by Mayor Anne Hidalgo. In the past, the Champs-Élysées Committee has organized additional open-air events, such as the world’s largest dictation event and a mass movie screening.
