According to Dutch authorities, rapper Nicki Minaj was momentarily detained and subsequently fined at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Saturday after officials allegedly discovered “soft drugs” in her luggage.
The Dutch national police agency, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, announced on Saturday night that a 41-year-old American woman who was apprehended on suspicion of exporting soft drugs was fined and released from detention after officials consulted with local prosecutors. The announcement was made on social media. The fine’s value was not specified.
Although the Dutch police did not identify Minaj as the suspect in question, the rapper shared a video of the ordeal on social media. She clarifies in the video that the police informed her that they had purportedly discovered marijuana in her bags and that it would need to be weighed.
In Minaj’s video, a man in a suit informs her that the authorities intend to “search all of her luggage.”
The man, who was not immediately identified, states in the video, “The police officer informed me that we must unload all of your luggage and examine it.”
The individual is also heard saying, “He (a police officer) does not believe you not have more with you than you said.”
Cannabis is prohibited in the Netherlands; however, it is permissible for recreational purposes.
In the video, police officers informed Minaj that she was “under arrest” for “carrying narcotics” before instructing her to board a van and travel to the police station.

Minaj was in Amsterdam on Thursday, performing at Ziggo’s Dome. She was en route to Manchester, England, for another show as part of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, which was scheduled for Saturday night. The arrest occurred while she was en route. Co-op Live, the Manchester venue where Minaj was scheduled to perform, announced that the show on Saturday had been postponed.
“The events of today have rendered it impossible to achieve tonight’s show, despite Nikki’s best efforts to investigate every conceivable avenue.” the co-op stated in a social media post.
